An|gi|o|ten|sin [griech. aggeĩon = Gefäß u. lat. tendere, tensum = spannen; ↑ -in (3)], das; -s, -e: im Blut vorkommende Gewebshormone (Oligopeptide), u. zwar das von dem Polypeptid Angiotensinogen durch ↑ Renin abgespaltene, physiol. inaktive Angiotensin I (10 Aminosäuren) u. die aus diesem durch ↑ ACE freigesetzten Angiotensin II (8 Aminosäuren, MG 1046) u. Angiotensin III (7 Aminosäuren, MG 931). Die A. II u. III sind haupts. blutdrucksteigernd, gefäßverengend u. antidiuretisch wirksam (RAA-System, vgl. Renin).

Angiotensin
 
[lateinisch tendere, tensum »spannen«, »ausdehnen«] das, -s, früher Angiotonin, Hypertensin, blutdrucksteigerndes Gewebshormon, das aus einer Globulinfraktion des Blutplasmas abgespalten wird. Durch Einwirkung des Nierenenzyms Renin wird zunächst das aus zehn Aminosäuren bestehende Peptid Angiotensin I gebildet. Dieses wird durch das Angiotensin-Konversions-Enzym (Abspaltung von zwei Aminosäuren) in das stark gefäßverengende Octapeptid Angiotensin II umgewandelt (die Abspaltung einer weiteren Aminosäure führt zum Heptapeptid Angiotensin III). Angiotensin II und III stimulieren ferner die Produktion und die Ausschüttung von Aldosteron.
 
Die synthetisch nachgebildete Substanz Angiotensinamid wird zur Behandlung von bestimmten Schockzuständen und arzneibedingtem arteriellem Blutdruckabfall (Hypotonie) in Form von intravenöser Dauerinfusion verwendet.
